You Matter Meditation

Hello my friend. Thank you for taking the time today to read this meditation in written form – which is ultimately taking time to invest in yourself - emotionally, spiritually and mentally. Especially because this is a simple meditation…

A meditation to remember that YOU MATTER. 

You can do this practice while sitting, laying, standing, eyes open, or closed (with the audio). My only ask is while you listen or read, you stay present to your body– to sensation. 

Okay, let’s begin. 


Taking your time now settling in, exploring the space you’re in. 

What is the light like? Is it day, night, dusk or morning? 

Are there shadows? Anything glistening in the sun? 

Take note of the weather - what season is it right now? How is the sky, and the temperature? 

As bad a wrap as talking about the weather gets, noting the weather, seasons and time of day is one of the simplest ways to come back to this moment. 

So be here, right now. 

What’s it like, right here, right now?

Now bring your attention to your body– and locate their place in space. 

Can you find yourself in the very center of all 4 directions? Imagining North, South, East and West- Front, back, right, left. 

Finding the very center of your body, then noting the space above you - softening the space between your ears, letting your eyes be soft, letting your perception go wide. 

Brilliant. And as you do this, also feeling your body interplay with gravity– the weight of your body, the density of your bones, the pull of this force outside you holding you down, and your own spark of aliveness propping you up. 

This moment matters - no matter how it’s presenting. 

Because You, my friend, Matter. 

You ARE matter. 

Once again, noting your body - a spirit with living flesh - you are matter. You exist.

Therefore - You matter.

You are matter - therefore - you exist.

Somewhere along the way, potentially very very young, there was a disconnection between your attention and your body - on your attention and the fact that you matter. 

No matter the reason why, throughout our lives this forgetting that we matter shows up in a myriad of ways. 

Be it putting others first, neglecting our needs, self-abandonment, staying small, the fear of taking up space. 

But this doesn’t have to remain the way we love.

No, you can decide, in this moment, to reconnect to your matter, and remember that you do, in fact matter. 

So let me ask you this…

– does your body know the SHAPE of not mattering? 

Perhaps it’s small? Shoulders forward? Hollow belly? Dull and flat? 

What shape does it take for you? 

How does it feel to hold that shape?

Noting the sensations, so you’d know when they were gone, right? 

Now once again, reconnecting to your center.

Re-anchoring in the density of your bones.

Breathing into your pelvis.

Listening wide to the room around you.

What is the shape of being Ripe with your fullness, ripe with your own mattering?

Feel the big, rightsized-ness of it now, moving out from your center. 

Bring fear along for the ride.

All parts are welcome, and the Inner Adult is driving. ;)

You mattering?

Take that shape now.

Explore what it feels like to move like you matter.

Perhaps your shoulders relax, away from your ears. 

Perhaps your face softens, and your eyes become kind. 

Perhaps your hands open, and your heart shines forward. 

What shape does mattering take inside your body?

Hold this shape, and breathe into it for 3 seconds longer…

And 3 more

And 3 more.

So you’ll know how to return, when you forget. 

You decide you matter. 

You decide your fate. 

From this shape, you decide your next choice.

You decide. 

You decide because this is your life, and you, my friend, matter. 

So as you leave this meditative space, please take with you the shape of your own mattering.

In the next choice you make, and the next, take the shape of you mattering.
